Koran vs. Quran
Posted On February 10, 2017
Dear Reporter X and Reporter Y,
In reply to an article you wrote last week regarding the Mosque shooting in Quebec, please note:
“Koran” is spelt “Quran” or Qur’an in the Islamic community. English cannot totally transliterate Arabic but the “K” sound is much more flatter and farther away that the “Q”.
You may research this yourself. Here is a reference link:

Further, spelling Quran with a “Q” is familiar to Muslims and in my opinion, a sign of solidarity and an inclusive gesture. It shows understanding and not a lack of it.
I hope you will consider using “Quran” in your future assignments when describing the Islamic holy book.
Thank you.
